Is this about the right rate for a temp receptionist?

I am temping at the moment just outside London, I havent had much temp work and dont know any other temps so I have got no one to compare with. The rate is £8.50 per hour, is that about right? Or am I being short changed with my innocence?

If you double the hourly rate you get roughly the annual salary so £17k. Don't know if that is a good rate but may help put it in context if you see permanent roles advertised locally.
