Do you contact lots of people in advance and arrange appointments?

Or do you go the more informal route and just hope to mingle, chat to people on stands etc

I would shamelessly stalk identify a few people via Twitter and try and arrange appointments.

This would make it feel less pressurized - and it'll be easier to talk to others if you're already 2.

I was planning to do a bit of Linked In stalking but Twitter is a good thought.
