i have got my first meeting at are HQ tomorrow after i put in a request for flexible working !! i am due to go back in middle of september leaving my 9month old son with a childminder. my usual working hours are 12 hour shifts 48 hours a week rolling 2 week rota,( harsh i know but some ones gotta do it lol !!) i have asked for monday-friday mornings only 24 hours a week no weekends, the thing is i know for a fact that they wont like this and i need to give reasonable reasons for wanting these hours, (of course apart from the fact that i dont want to work 12 hour shifts i wont see my son all day )their is no one else in the company i work for with the same job as me who works part time, we look after adults with learning difficulties every one works 12 hours, new mums who have gone back have chosen to consoladate their hours over the week to work the 12 hour shifts and to job share, with my more senior position and the rescession (cutbacks etc) part time teamleader (my job) i dont think they are willing to compromise (i am) any advice, i think i have given you enough information to see if you can PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!

How are you proposing the remainder of your job is covered? Are you expecting them to recruit a job share/additional staff?

that is a good question, one they will probably ask Thanks yea they have job shares already why not at my level ??

jen, an employer can refuse a flexible working request on the following grounds:

?The burden of additional costs
?Detrimental effect on the ability to meet customer demand
?The inability to reorganise work among existing staff
?The inability to recruit additional staff
?Where it will have a detrimental impact on quality and performance

I would work backwards from that to try and show how your request will not have an adverse impact on those things.

Hi Jen, hope your meeting went well. Im in the same situation with my first meeting being next Monday. I'm also in a senior position with no other people at my level currently doing jobshare. Would be interested to know how you get on. Good luck x
