Gross or net repayments? Very worried.

Hi
When I left my job three years ago to be a sahm I was overpaid by one month's wages. They knees this and I had contacted them since twice but they have only just written Back today asking for the money back.
Their letter shows the gross amount and the net amount and says I will be invoiced but does not state which I have to repay.

I have the net amount which I kept to one side (approx 1500), but the gross amount is £2200. I do not have the extra £700 and am really worried about this. Will they want the gross amount even though I actually only received the £1500?

Thanks for any advice. I will call the, but didn't open the letter until this evening and now feel sick with worry.

It should be the net amount. They will have to do a retrospective adjustment to your tax and NI records to reclaim the other £700.
