tricky decision

In reasonable job but it will probably only last another 3 years. I have interview for something else but the problem is it will entail about another 30 quid a week in travel expenses and involve a longer day but it is a new place so more secure I do not have the impression there will be any promotion prospects in the new one What to do ?

As my dear dad says, it's an interview, not a cast iron job offer. Go and see what they say, you can always ask them about career progression opportunities further down the line. Even if you don't fancy it, you can polish up your interview skills!
