Do I need to unregister as self-employed while on MA?

Dear fellow freelancers,
I hope someone has an answer for this. I am completing my Maternity Allowance form and I am confused in terms of what happens while I am on maternity leave. I am not planning on working so

  • shall i unregister from being self-employed and then re-register when start working again?
  • do i have to pay NIC contributions while on maternity leave?

Cant find any information on the gov website. Much appreciate your advise.
Thank you!

During the period you recieve MA, your NI conrtibutions stop. Agree, stay self employed, and you are entitled to do 10 days 'keeping in touch' without it affecting MA, maybe useful at some point?
