Who can be my referee?

I am a teacher and applying for another school based position.

I have a reference from my post recent position (left it just under two years ago). I was at this school for 6 years.

It means my last teaching post was 8 years ago and I think that is so long ago is it really fair to ask for a reference from them? so much time has passed it seems silly? For the record left on good terms and I know reference would be fine.

I think its fine - non in teaching but asked for reference from that long ago - would probably contact them beforehand and check who to give and that they remember you!
