Our wages have just been done by someone externally & I think she has forgotten to pay our usless 18 year old receptionist, She had a week off sick last week but was spotted out & about wth her boyfriend and she has got a real attitude at the moment!
Should I sort the payment out or leave it for a few days & plead inocent??
Nasty I know but at the moment I feel that she deserves it!!!!

I'd sort it out tbh - even if she is useless.

Told a partner & she was happy to leave it til Fri then write her a cheque as she banks at the same branch & will clear quickly anyway!!

Really tiresome, but paying her late wont improve her attitude. does your company have some policy on sick days, eg only so many paid ones in the year?

chjlly · 21/02/2006 13:54

Unfortunately not - they are quite relaxed about that sort of thing but I am keeping an eye on her sick days from now on

mmm, maybe a good idea to implement a policy quick. I used to work in a company with 8 paid sick days a year, some people regarded them as 8 more days of holiday...

They're separate issues imo. Pay her, she's done the work, and then sort out her attitude/attendance. You and your company should act professionally, not deal with your performance/attendances issue by 'forgetting' to pay her.

We are going to pay her but we need to leave it a couple of days as it needs to be done by cheque now as it would be unfair to the rest of the staff for her to have her wages before everyone else. (she banks at the same branch so her cheque would clear same day)
I think the partners are going to speak to her about her attitude as they are now at the point where I think they just want her to leave!! I think that jer being off sick last week showed that we could cope with out her!

Gosh - what a way to treat an employee

Lets hope she doesn't sue you for constructive dismissal!

Perhaps her boyfriend accompanied her to the drs, or she was buying medication at the pharmacy!

Oh well - cannon fodder, another one will be along soon!

Last word - just how does a responsible employer forget to pay an employee????

Kathlean · 23/02/2006 09:57

I forgot to pay 2 employees

They were in the French subsidiary of the company I worked for. I sent off all their pay to the french accountants to work out their pay for the month. Normally the accountants faxed back the info later however they forgot this time. Because the information didn't come back I just completely forgot them.

I went off for 2 weeks for christmas and came back to calls from them asking when they were going to get paid.

her wages were done on the payroll system just not on the banking one her details were on a different page and I guess the girl that comes in to do the wages didn't check!
We gave her a cheque yesterday although it was after she had shouted at me across the street if I had done it!
She has her money at the same time as the rest of us so not a huge problem the fact was that we didn't see why she should get paid before the rest of us.
