Benefits of being self employed?

I'm looking into starting my own business as a childminder. Originally i wanted to find a building to rent to set up my own business as a preschool or nursery but that seems to be a long shot yet with the little money i have. So after some thought, the best option would be to look into childminding in my own home. I know a lot of people around my area who are childminders but i just wanted to know what the benefits are of being self employed? How do i start this? How much should i charge? I aim to make it 5 days a week during the school hours with a maximum of 4 children to start with.

hi -assuming you are in the UK - I would pop over to the childminders section on here - there are quite a lot of threads about setting up as a childminder -and if they don't answer them its a bit involved but you can get support from your local council normally. Incidently most parents who want to use a childminder would probably want longer hours than school hours - and you can only have 3 childen under 5 normally - including any of your children under 5 -
The tax situation is quite good through as you can set alot of things again your tax bill
