Who do you ask for a personal reference for you? I dont really know anybody, but Im going to need a reference to get a job aren't I? Ive been out of work for a while and looking to go back to work. I have applied for a job and had a phone interview yesterday. If Im successful there (Haven't heard either way and got told I would hear by phone or email) there is a face to face interview and it was mentioned to me during the phone interview that I need to provide 2 references. I dont have 2 :( Am I doomed to a life of not being able to work?

Well did you work before?
Have you done any community work in the time you've been off?

FartBlossom · 26/05/2012 11:59

I have done, but I know all you get from my last job is a FB worked here from this date till this date. Plus they did mention a personal reference too. I also thought that if I dont get this job I will want to apply for others and so will be useful to have one.

Ive not any community work really, helping with the school fete today, but Ive only been here 3 months.

Do you have any friends who are professionals/business owners? I gave one recently for a friend and just said she was nice and responsible and that was good enough.

are you in touch with any of your old collegues -
and you must have friends somewhere - even in your not current area

FB worked here from X to Y will be fine as one reference - loads of places will only do that now.
And then, a friend who can string a sentence together, and has a job that sounds responsible should be fine. A friend from your old area should be OK.

I used my ex colleague and a close friend. I now use a teacher I've done long term placements for and my friend still

I put a plea in FB and someone has come forward :)
