When to tell work I'm pregnant

I'm currently 10 weeks and wondering when to tell work I'm pregnant. I have already informally told one manager, as I've really struggled with morning sickness and fatigue, and my line of work is high-stress, high pressure and often involves very long hours.

It's complicated by the fact that we're coming up to promotion time, and while this would be early for me, there is a possibility that I could be promoted, as I am already acting up above my grade. However I'm concerned that announcing my pregnancy might possible hinder any possibility of early promotion. Promotions are finalised in the middle of June.

However, I'm also aware that we are currently doing long-term portfolio planning, and I am being given projects for which the fieldwork will be done while I'm on maternity leave. Due to a number of people leaving, I will almost certainly be handed more projects to handle as part of my acting up role, and do less of my grade-based role. Given the amount of planning time involved, the more time I can give my employer to arrange portfolios, the better.

So, I'm really not sure what to do. Any advice? I'm working form home this morning, but won't have internet access after about 11am, but will check back later.

I would wait until at least your 12 week scan and possibly until after promotion are contirmed - its only a few weeks and it would seem a shame to even think that you has missed out because of telling them you were pregnant- also without being negative but not all pregancy work out - and its worth waiting a bit longer on the basis in my view

If you don't start showing sooner I would wait until after you find out about the promotions in June. Unfortunately it's all too common for pregnancy to mean that a "certain" promotion suddenly disappears. You aren't obliged to tell them before 25 weeks anyway - and as you're still so early on telling them in June will give them plenty of time to start thinking about cover/project handover during your maternity leave.
