Request for part time hours?

Hi folks,
I am currently working full timeas my dh has been out of work. It looks like he will soon have a full time job though so I will be able to cut back.
I have 2 boys (3&5) and am just finsing it increasingly difficult to manage. If I make a statutory application to go part time will my employer have to respect it and if necessary move me to a team where it would be more manageable? To be honest I also hate my current position so see this as a possibe win win of being able to spend more time with my children and not have to continue in a role I hate.
Or can they just tell me to go away? I am grateful for my full time job but I am so fed up with the pressures & would like to know my kids!
Thanks.

Your employer has to consider your request but as long as they can give business reasons, they can refuse it and are certainly not obliged to find you a role in a different team or anything.

Is there a part time vacancy available in another team then? If so, could you not apply for it?
