on Income support, 6 monthly job seeker interview - what happens?

Just got a call to arrange my first job seekers interview. I have been on Income Support since the end of last year as I am now a single parent to a toddler.

Can anyone give me an idea of what happens in these interviews? I have anxiety problems and this is really stressing me out after a few bad days. I'd find it easier to deal with if I knew what I was going to.

TIA for any advice.

Hi, nothing to worry about at this stage, they;ll ask if your in a position to look for work and will not put pressure on you if your not, they;ll give you advice about type of work you could do, they may do a better off calculation to show how better off you would be in work, discuss any courses/training you may want to do,they will not force you into work, i asked for training once my DD was in school i am now a qualified and working teaching assistant level 3, good luck x

How old is your DC? As a single parent to a toddler this sounds like a 6 monthly review meeting rather than a 'job seekers' interview.

Please don't get stressed about it. They will go through your circumstances, make changes on the system if required, outline the options available to you, and should be helpful.

Thank you both. I'm sure she said job seeker on the phone. Ds is 22 months.

I know it seems stupid to worry about this but I never expected to be in this situation and I guess I feel very vulnerable about the whole thing. It really helps to know the kind of stuff they will talk about so thanks.

Yes thanks for asking, doing better. It went fine, very work focused but my situation is apparently enough to melt the stony heart of job centre staff.
