'd just really like some advice from anyone who's been in my position, I've just found out that I'm 6 weeks pregnant, and am about to move job, to different council, so not even in the same area. Am crapping myself cos I don't think I'll qualify for maternity pay at new job, even tho I accepted the job offer before I found out, I won't be starting until probably june. I don't really know what I'm gonna do, would really like some support!

You'll get maternity allowance, which doesn't have the 6 weeks at 90% of normal pay, but is the same rate as the rest of SMP for 39 weeks, and (unlike SMP) isn't taxed.

I knew I was pregnant when I accepted my offer! It's been fine.

When you say council, do you mean that you currently work for a council, and are moving to another one? If so you may qualify for continuous service for benefits (incl. maternity). If it's just a normal job move then you'd qualify for maternity allowance, (and it wouldn't matter that it's a different area).

Are you in a union? If so contact them. I would say the same as Posypoo though xxx Congratulations
