Maternity leave cover - would you ask about possibility of permanent position?

Interview coming up for postion covering mat leave. Am in two minds about enquiring about long term possibilities. On one hand I think it shows interest; on the other I wonder if some may be put off by it?

Personally I don't think there's any harm in asking. I've just interviewed several candidates for my mat leave cover and wouldn't have been upset or put off by that question, although it may lead to further discussion about what you're looking for, so be prepared for more questions coming back at you! I guess it may depend on the job though, we're very laid back at our place! Good luck btw!
