Arrgh! No childminders

Looking at going back to work in Sept. Ds will be nearly 4 and- hopefully- starting at nursery attached to school. Apparently there are only two CM who do pick up there, and both are full! Need 2 places, for dd too, who will be 1. One of the two had us round to visit, ds had nice time playing with her son, then she casually mentioned she would have to check if her other 2 mindees were going to be leaving. They are 2, so why would they??! Then she rang yesterday, said they are staying, and she also managed to get Ds' name wrong, when it is same as her son's! Can it really be true that there are only 2 of them, and I am never going to find anyone??

have you got a full list of cm's in your area from cis?

some cm's will pick up from various schools dependant on who they have - so you might be lucky.

advertise in the local shops "wanted cm to collect from school name", why not ask the nursery teachers - they will know doubt know of childminders that pick up from school.

good luck.

Where did you get your information from about only two childminders being able to collect from the school?

I only ask because I know our Childrens Info Service are able to issue a list of CMs who collect from named schools. I assume that they all offer the same service. However, at least 2 minders I know personally did not have their names on the list, and they've been doing the run for years and the CIS did have the information.

If this is where you got your info from, it may be wrong or not necessarily up-to-date. I would ring round other minders anyway, as someone might be prepared to start doing a school run there. Newly-registered CMs would obviously be a bit more receptive to the idea!

Also, have you asked at the nursery/school itself? They may not necessarily know everyone who does the school run, but then they might!

and a local childminder might not be registered at CIS to pick up from that school, but be prepared to IYSWIM

Are you in a surestart area? They are very good
