Medical transcription from home

I am unhappy in my current job and I am thinking about doing some medical transcription work from home as I have very good knowledge of medical terminology. I have some experience of being a medical secretary and I can work in any speciality. Does anyone have experience of doing this, what is the pay like and if there are any agencies that are better than others? I don't have any typing qualifications (although my typing isn't too bad) and I'm not sure if it would be worth doing some.

Any advice about experiences of this would be appreciated!

There are agencies but IME they aren't particularly well paying and you'd need to have a pretty fast typing speed to make it worth your while - at least 80wpm.

Secondly if you decided to go out on your own, you'd need marketing/business skills in order to get the clients. It's not everyone's cup of tea...

If you google "virtual assistant" you should get quite a few good sites.

Well, having relevant experience is a start, but you will require more than that to begin your medical transcription business. Like someone?s mentioned, you will need to build contacts to get work. You?ll also need to establish your credentials with potential clients. For that, training and certification may be required.

I have heard Career Step?s training in medical transcription is among the best in the industry. They also have a placement assistance system to help their graduates find work. Why don?t you visit their website and see if you find their MT training program interesting?
