NHS workers - come and tell me about childcare vouchers and what happens when you go to just SMP only

Hi!

I'm on mat leave at the moment and as from this month I'm onto SMP only, this wil show up in my next payslip. I get childcare vouchers at present. DS is staying in nursery so I need to keep paying for it obviously, rather than saving up the vouchers as some people do. I'm planning on taking the full year off so in three months I'll get no pay at all.

I've read lots of posts on here about childcare vouchers and SMP, and the euro court ruling etc. But I'm now confused! In my experience my workplace are a bit rubbish about this type of thing, so I want to have my facts right before I speak to them, as I suspect I'll be telling them what needs to be done not vice-versa!

Also not sure if it's relevant but I temporarily left the scheme for a while last year to ensure it didn't impact on my mat pay (though not for the whole qualifying period unfortunately, due to the uselessness of the person dealing with it...).

So, is there anyone else who's had recent experience of this as an NHS worker on mat leave who can tell me how it works? I assume all trusts must do things the same way as our mat pay package is standard. How do I keep getting my vouchers till I return to work? Do they pay for them then I pay them back?

TIA!

I have been assured by my trust that they will pay my childcare vouchers once I go onto SMP only. This is because SMP cannot be deducted from.

You will not have to pay for them at all or pay back.

Not sure if your break from them would impact though.

Thanks. Dh did some searching on Google and seems to think they should pay for them too. Anyone else with any experience to share?

I am in exactly the same position as you and my childcare vouchers will continue to be paid now I am on SMP only. I don't think your break will impact on this.

Resurrecting this old thread.
I'm an NHS worker and also off for 12 mos mat leave.
Does anyone know what happens with CCV for the last few months of mat leave where there is no pay?
Thanks

I believe they are deemed to be a benefit and therefore have to be paid throughout.

Thanks Moderately. Do you know if there's anything online about this that I could show to HR?
