What is best way to negotiate pay when offered a job?

hoping I might get a job offer this week. How do I get the top end of the pay scale? Tips please.

Ask for more money. Though with that little info its hard to advise.

Well yeah. What I am getting at is tips on how to get them to agree to more, assuming they offer you middle of the scale. Not talking huge sums, just 20-22k on the ad. I think it is low pay for the level of responsibility. Do you just say you won't accept it for less than 22 or what?

Well, it depends on how much you want the job and how much they want you.
Threatening not to take the job I'd only do if the low end of the pay scale really was a deal breaker for me, not if I only wanted to try and bargain.

What are you currently on? In my experience it's something which is taken into consideration when they decide on what to offer.
