hospitalisation / self certifying / docs note.

Is there a standard rule/policy for self certification of sickness, or does it vary between workplaces?

I was hospitalised for an infection over the weekend, discharged yesterday. I've had 4 days off work, which is the limit AFAIK for self cert. I'm booked to work tomorrow and sat, although work have already covered my shifts. I feel like I could go in, but would be a bit uncomfortable (am exhausted today and all I've done is taken DS to school, also anti-bs having 'unpleasant' effect on me IYKWIM) Hospital doc said fine to work if feel well enough (helpful).

So, my question is, do I need a doctors note to cover me if I decide to stay off another 2 days, or does the fact I was in hospital negate that?

You can self certificate for 7 days as far as i'm aware.

Yes you should be fine to self-cert for up to 7 days but that starts from when you went off sick (days worked is irrelevant). Anything over 7 days you'll need a doctor's note.

My personal opinion is that it's better to take an extra day or two and get well than go in and do a poor job or go off again later because you've over done it.

Lovely, thanks.

Not sure where I got 4 days from in that case Confused. Perhaps I'm a bit more drug-addled than I thought...
