Do you think I would be sacked?

I'm so worried and hoping you can take away some uncertainty.

I work for a consultant and while on ML, did a bit of work for another new consultancy (set up by someone made redundant by my employer) just to get a bit of extra cash to pay off credit cards.

I gave away no secret info and just used my skills on a self-employed basis. However, I'm now so worried that my boss will find out that I can barely sleep.

If they did suspect, should I admit it or deny it and do you think this would be a sackable offence?

Thanks

Is there something in your contract about not working for the competition?

It says your outside activities must not compromise your work for the company.

I would try very hard to ensure they don't find out. It's hard to imagine that it wouldn't be a breach of contract if the work was in a related field to your main employment.

Presumably you will be declaring this other work to taxman? As far as I know you cannot undertake additional employment while in receipt of SMP. Which part of your ML were you in?

How old is your baby? Is there a reason why you are so focused on worrying about this? Is there something else going on?

If it was genuinely self-employed there's no problem with receiving SMP at the same time Llareggub (how's you?!), it's only employed work you can't do at the same time.

But it does sound like you've breached your contract OP, and I would suggest you do not admit it as yes I think you would be risking your job by doing so. if they ask you directly, obviously you can't lie, but don't go confessing.
