HELP! Need some advice on sickness & handing in notice

I have been off sick for 6 weeks after slipping 2 discs in my neck.
I decided to apply for another job that wouldnt involve heavy physical work.
My boss meanwhile referred me to Occ Health my appointment is not til 23rd April.
I saw my GP last week and said i would like to try a slow return to work (as hadnt heard about other job) and she wrote a sick note saying i should work 6hr shifts, then after a couple of weeks 8 hours, then slowly back up to 12 hr shifts.
However because its not sanctioned by Occ Health i cannot officially have a rehab programme and will only get paid for the hours i work (wheras nirmally you get paid your full wage if instructed by occ health).

So i have to hand in my notice tomorrow.
My options are to work short shifts and lose money, or get a 4 week sick note to cover my notice.

Any suggestions?

Where I worked , if you give your notice in then give a sick note in to coverk your notice you dont get paid.

Firstly, ow! Poor you, I hope you are able to find a way of relieving the pain ;Sad.

Secondly, why do you feel you have to hand in your notice if you haven't heard anything from the other job? Wouldn't that make you worse off financially than being paid for reduced hours?

Have you tried phoning Occ Health to see if they could bring the appointment forward at all?

I suppose if you are capable of working the 6 hour shifts then the "right" thing to do would be to work them. If to work them would cause you more pain or damage then the right thing to do would be to get yourself a sick note.

First off, if you haven't been offered a job, I agree with Pop, second hassle your OH, I work in OH and our first doctor appointment is also mid April, however I will interveen and triage in cases like this, as in, I know my limits, I am every experienced but I would either contact with permission your GP and/or grab the OH doctors to discuss this situation.
I imagine the rehab program has a physio involved in which case I would be happy to refer on without even seeing you, just seeing the Man Ref, I do this all the time and book in to OHP ASAP after, Physios are profs in their own right, so can make decisions on this type of thing.
For me in OH even if I Knew you where leaving it would not alter my course, you would get your rehab, I follow my physio's lead, as in soonest is bestest, in rehab, They have a better logo, that's mine :)
but please phone your OH unless they are one of the tick box corporate OH's outside providers, then sorry,:( they gove us a bad name, but other wise they will listen to you.
