mums i need help, am applying for a job and im stumped at the first hurdle! Im always told conflicting things on how to prepare a CV and would like some advice please! I have a template which I have used before but I'd like to know whether it should be one page long or more etc, what are the best headings to have. cheers

no more than two sides afaik. Depends how much experience/quals you have though.

At the moment it's on one side but I just think it looks a bit naff, but I spoke to someone who works closely with HR and he said that quite often employers are put off by a long cv. Ok so no more than 2 sides... what about headings anyone????

I never read anything longer than 2 pages, I prefer bullet points and I don't want to know about your O or A levels, only higher education.

Thanks fairymum, i'll just pop down my degree then. Bullet points sounds good thanks x

I keep a CV on file - just in case it's helpful my subheadings are:

[name, address contact details right at the top]

Profile [few lines eg I am an experienced office administrator with a degree in Psychology and a proven record of blah blah balh, good team player, strong communication skills etc etc]

Employment History [in reverse order]

Current Position [talk it up!]

Education [in reverse order]

Professional Achievements

Other Qualifications [eg driving licence, IT skills, languages]

Activities

Interests [combine these two if they don't split neatly]

References [I always say 'available on request']

Two pages max!
