Returning to work part time discussion with boss

I have applied to go part time when I go back after mat leave. My boss has asked me to go in for a discussion and says under the flexible working regulations I'm allowed to bring a colleague with me. I can't see the benefits of this, has anyone done it?

I think it sounds like your colleague would witness what was said
Can be useful

It's just a right you have as an employee (same for disciplinary and grievance meetings) to have a colleague or union rep.

For flexible working requests, it may not go as planned - they may challenge you on how your request will affect team, dept, company etc so might be worth having some support.

It depends if you think they will likely accept your request?

Most FWR meetings I've been involved with, the employee has attended on their own.

I can see the benefits.

Withouth being intimidating you have someone to listen and hear the message / conversation being had. He / she may make some notes while you listen.

You may be surprised at how emotional you feel in this situation.

Grab the offer with both hands.
