I used to work in a University admin office (several in fact!) and used to recruit for one of them, and what you need to know will depend hugely on what the exact level/nature of the job is.

In broad terms though, try to think of some concrete examples of how you have proved yourself to be well organised at work or at home; how you function as part of a team and how you have met deadlines/helped others to meet deadlines etc. And of course big up (but don't lie about!!!) your admin skills like familarity with Microsoft Office/IT generally.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

I'm not a clerical assistant but I do work in a university writing the databases that they use. Our clerical assistants need knowledge of how to use MS Access database system (and SITS - but not all unis use it). Also lots of data presented in Excel so again worth making sure you show any knowledge off there.
Good at dealing with people - e.g. taking students queries - in person and over the phone. Have examples lined up of when you have had to deal with tricky customers, situations in general if necessary.
