Maternity allowance - can I work any of 10 KIT days prior to birth?

The work I do at the moment is self employed and involves extensive driving so I'd like to start my leave at about 33/34 weeks but continue the work I can do from home. This would involve a day a week. Does anyone know if you are allowed to use keeping in touch days before the birth or do they need to be taken afterwards? I've done several web searches but there doesn't seem to be any info about this out there.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Where I work you can take your KIT days at any time during your mat leave, before or after baby, as long as it's safe for you & baby and there's an agreed business need.
