How do I get started with promotional work?

Does anyone know the best way to get started doing some promotional work? I'm a trained dancer and performer but there's not a lot of work about at the moment. My friends have given me the names of a few agencies they have done promotional work for in the past and I've registered with them but haven't heard anything yet. Has anyone got an ideas of how to start getting some work?

I've managed to get some promotional / field marketing work through FieldStar
www.fieldstar.org. It's free to join unlike some of the promo job sites and they email me with jobs available. From what I've seen they provide online training and an online profile that you can send out to loads of agencies but I think thats in their Professional membership which is still only £3 a month. I've also heard of starnow which could be good for your dancing / performing.
