I don't often post...but I'm very annoyed!

First work refuse my request to go part-time. Then, trying to work out my options finance have just told me that they won't work out how much maternity pay I'd have to pay back ouT don't go back as it's "very complicated"! Well how am I meant to make a decision if I don't know the financial implications....

Grrrr. Any advice?

Did you formalise your flexible working request? if so, have you appeales their decision? What reasons did they give?

What is your company's policy on paying back occupational maternity pay if you don't rerun? This should be straight forward - not complicated - and written down somewhere (policy handbook - or your initial confirmation letter).

Agree with Hairy above, it should be straightforward and the process stipulated in the company's maternity policy (do they have one?).

I would put your request in writing to finance person and state a date you would like a reply by - remember they will have to pay you for any annual leave you have accrued during your mat leave, so it may no be as much money as you think.

I am currently working out mat leave options and my finance director worked out to the penny how much I would need to pay back, should I not return, in 5 mins while I sat in her office - it can't be that hard!

Good luck Smile

Thanks for your replies. I did a formal written request and they refused with reasons. I don't think I'm going to appeal- a far more valuable employee recently went through the same process and appeal and still got turned down. Still, I think I'd be great part-time!

If I don't go back I pay back OMP but taxes, NI,pension, student loan all impact how much it would be, which is why I want to find out how much!

My plan is to get on the phone tomorrow and be more forceful, I was so surprised they said they wouldn't I didn't know what to say! Failing that I'll go to HR and start writing a letter! Nothings simple.
