Bad boss - what to do?

I have a situation where by my line manager treats me and my colleagues
in a manner that, to be honest, would be classed as bullying. This has been
going on for manner years and I have on several occasions, verbally, rasied
the issue with the boss of my company. He says he will address the issue but
nothing really changes.

My next step I guess would be to raise a official greivence against my line
manager, but before I do that I wondered weather the following would be a good idea?

If I approach my line manager and advise him directly that if he continues to
treat me and my colleagues in an unacceptable manner i will raise an official
grevience against him, I figure this would change the situation. Rather than
him having all the cards so to speak, there would then be a change in the balance
of power as he would have to change his ways or risk an official greivence being
on both our work records.

Do you thinks this is a good idea? I have tried everything else. Any thoughts
much appreciated.

Have been in a similar situation and I would say if that's what you want to do then give it a try, but please don't say you are speaking on behalf of colleagues as well. They may say now that they will back you up but when it comes to the crunch they might not and then your position is weakened. In my case, no-one else spoke up when I did and while things got marginally better for a while, I decided to leave (fortunately i had another job lined up while all this was going on).

Don't be surprised or upset if colleagues who are affected choose not to get involved in any action. Everyone handles this situation differently and each person has to deal with it in a way they can cope with iyswim? I don't mean that as a criticism in any way, we just all have differed coping strategies.

Best of luck, it's a crap situation to be in. Particularly frustrating when it's been going on for years and nothing has been done. Angry

Hi been in your situation exactly. this is what i should have done but never did. Raise it in writing, not grevience yet n to him only. give him a deadline to respond by. if this doesntchange situation, write again to him cc'd to boss and hr. if that doesnt work raise a grevience.

i understand u have raised it verbally over years but there is no proof u did. n.b. i had made this same mistake.

agree if piffpaffpoff, do not speak on behalf of colleagues about bullying - chances are they will back u behind managers back then in front of the bosses they will dessert you
