Redundancy or not?

Hello!
So I'm currently on maternity leave.
While I've been on maternity leave my office has moved location to one which is to far away for me to get to ( which they admit)
They have said that for me to continue in my old role I would need to commute in for roughly a quarter of my working days (which would take me from making some money working to making a loss). I wasn't happy about this so we had moved to discussing redundancy which I had come to turns with and was actually pretty happy.
Today they offered me an alternative role which would mean I could work completely from home. This role is basically the job I had 5 years ago and had been promoted twice from.
Do I have to accept the job - what I mean is if I say no will they still make me redundant or will it effectively mean I am resigning?
Thanks!

Possibly. You need to ask them. Is the other job considered suitable. Same salary etc? They could argue they've offered you alternative work.

In offering you the other job they should be telling you whether it's optional and the alternative is redundancy or whether they consider it a suitable alternative and are effectively proposing to place you in it.

Impossible to tell from what you've said whether it could be a suitable alternative. Sounds as though they are keen to keep you.
