well some of you will know that i took my employers to a tribunal for sex discrimination and won. i have worked since then for three months but was made redundant. anyway, im looking for another job and im stuck on what to say about references. my last employer will give me a verbal reference no problem but the one before that...well.

since i took them to court they will probably refuse or give me a really bad one just to be spiteful.

im reluctant to be honest with potential employers about why i dont want them to ring but will that make me look awkward and put people off? i dont know. does a verbal reference have to be from the directors? or could it be from someone who did work there, senior to me who left before this all happened? i know he would be happy to recommend me.

im really stuck.

ps this company went bump and then started up again...so far ive just said the company no longer exists so no verbal ref available. i have a written one from them before they knew i was taking action against them. its not a lie exactly, but if anyone was to find out they were still trading under a slightly different name....

im annoyed. i dont want to lie, i was proved to be in the right.

yes I'd say you could get away with just a senior ex-colleague on the back of the company no longer exists
