I'm just kicking around ideas for the future really...

One of which is an online shop.

How do you go about sourcing and commissioning stock?

What legalities are there?

Tell me about your experiences!

I know this is vague, but it is very early days in my head and I'm trying to guage feasibility. I have marketing/PR experience and some business training.

I am in the process of setting up an online shop. Its hard work but quite satisfying. There are so many considerations - getting the site built , adding stock and driving traffic being the big ones.
There are govt regulations about online trading that must be adhered to also, thought they are not as complex as they initially seem. my shop is here ,but not fully launched yet- any pr ideas?

my online shop launched in September www.astridsadventures.co.uk I have a bricks and mortar shop as well - I don't recommend doing both as inventory management is a bit of a nightmare unless you have big integrated systems. SEO is the holy grail, I have had to pay someone to do it for me as simply no time. Steep learning curve but interesting and rewarding!

I have an online shop on my website, it's been running for over 6 years. I sell my own products, (& also wholesale those products to other businesses to sell on their online shops!)

Looking for products to sell in an online shop, obviously it depends what area you're looking at, but there are trade magazines (I know of a few in the nursery, greeting card and gift sectors if they're relevant to you) and trade fairs- Harrogate Nursery Fair, Top Drawer, Spring fair for example.

There's lots of info about ecommerce on the Business Link website, too
