Pension Contributions whilst on ML

I'm starting ML on 20-Feb. I currently put in 2.5% of my salary, and my company matches. Whilst on leave, they are saying that they will continue to pay into mypension, but only if I pay in 2.5% of my normal salary rate.

The way I read the Direct.gov advice, is that my company has to pay in 2.5% normal salary, but I pay in 2.5% actual renumeration (ie my gross pay during frist 39 weeks of ML).

"Pension contributions during Statutory Maternity Leave
If your employer contributes to an occupational pension scheme, they must carry on making their usual contributions:

?for the whole time you are on ordinary maternity leave - which is the first 26 weeks of your Statutory Maternity Leave
?for any time you are receiving any Statutory Maternity Pay
?for any time you are receiving contractual maternity pay
If you normally make contributions to your pension you should carry on doing so, based on the amount of maternity pay you receive. "

Can anyone clarify??

Yes. Your employer should pay 2.5% of your normal salary while you are receiving mat pay. You should pay 2.5% of whatever you are actually receiving.

thanks flowery- do you have any links or anything as they say they?ve checked with pension & corporate HR and they think I need to put in 2.5% of my full salary?.

This is the third thing they?ve gotten wrong? They?re useless

It?s been 103 days since I handed in my MAT B1, and still no official response. I?m having to get all this information (re holiday days, bank holidays, pensions, salary, car, etc) piecemeal?

Don't laugh, but I thought your thread was about pension contributions while on MN.

Here you go guidance for employers from the Equality & Human Rights Commission, see paragraph 5 of the 'entitlements during maternity leave section', specifically says employee contributions should be based on pay actually being received, not full pay.

Businesslink guidance for employers, very clear, see 'Contributions to an OPS'.

It's not rocket science for an HR department, really. HmmAngry on your behalf. I need a [rolls eyes at having to do big HR departments' jobs for them] emoticon. Those links took me approximately 3 minutes to find, and you shouldn't have to be pushing them on basic maternity entitlements like this. Makes me cross that people who don't have MN to ask get taken advantage of.

Rant over. Grin
