Have you any transferable skills - eg: volunteering, helping at local primary school, scouts/guides, work experience from school etc?

What are the essential skills on the job description/person spec, that will give an idea what kind of information they are looking for?

Ladyemem · 14/01/2012 21:15

Yes, i did work experience at primary school in year 10.
There is no mention of essentials skill for the job :(

Is there anything else on the Job description other than the detail you have already given? I imagine they are looking for customer service, working with people, dealing with money, calm under pressure etc. So if you can include that sort of thing in your skills and experience. Have you done any kind of job or work experience/volunteering where you have done any of those things?

Other skills they might be looking for include being IT skills (give examples), communications skills and/or writing skills.

Why are you applying for this job? Could put something like, I am looking for my first opportunity in the workplace where I feel I can make a positive contribution as I love animals and working with people (or whatever).

Does this help?

as it is hospitality job, you could say you want to work in the hospitality industry and this would be excellent experience blah blah.

I am assuming due to your age it is a sat/ hoilday job, in which case they are not wanting oddles of info off you, they don't expect experience, but they do want someone who works hard and can work well under direction and when shown a job to do is a quick learner.

the Primary school experience can be used as well, because they main audience is children and their careers.

don't copy and paste what i have put because it will be poorly spelt and the grammer is terrible.

do if a hand written form photocopy it and do several write throughs ask someone to proff read before your real application, also keep a copy of the aplication too read through before interview to refresh your memory on what you put.

DON'T whatever you do write Blah, blah :)

good luck.

Also can include school things and hobbies - team captain, clubs, prefects etc - at your age they will not expect a lot of experience

senua · 14/01/2012 21:48

LOL @ @proff read" Grin

Do they have a website: can you get your direction from there? Be careful about parroting too closely their words back at them though, they can usually spot it.

great thanks for your help. this is what i've written so far. Is this ok?

Why are you applying for this job

I think working for Drusilla would give me valuable work experience. This would be my first job and I am excited about this great opportunity.

As a young child I was a member of Drusillas for many years and thoroughly enjoyed my memories there. I am aware that Drusillas won the Tourism South East Visitor Attraction of the Year Award for 2010/11 and I would be proud to work for such great attraction.

Skills and experience relevant to the job

I am currently studying food technology gcse so I understand the importance of health and safety when working with food. In year 10 I did a work experience placement at a primary school and there I learnt how to work as a team alongside the teaching staff and children , to help others, listen and communicate well.

I would consider myself to be very reliable, friendly and a quick learner . I have an excellent attendance record at school and am always punctual

Interests and hobbies

Being with Family and friends, listening to music, trampolining, baking cakes, internet, drawing, cinema, am a member of local gym.
