DP will be made redundant - unsure wether he is due any redundancy money?

Basically DP worked for a company from 1998 to 2002, left to work elsewhere for 18 months and came back to same company where he has been since august 2004.

I was wondering if anyone knows wether his previous stint at the comapany counts towards his service as far as redundancy money is concerned... I've read on the CAB website that he needs to have worked for 2 years but there's no mention that it has to be up until the redundancy....

If he gets nothing then we are seriously up the creek with no paddle, so at the moment hanging onto any lifeline possible!
