letter confirming maternity leave

I have been asking my HR dep for 2 months now to send me a confirmation letter re my maternity leave dates and confirm what pay will I get and if the dates I receive the pay will stay the same (I am due in 5 weeks now). They do not have any additional scheme for maternity pay so it will be only the statutory pay, however I would like this to be confirmed.

I got an email saying they will not confirm the pay as they - "simply don't do it"... which I found a little bit weird. They can only confirm the dates i sent them couple of months ago stating my intentional start/end date.

Did anyone have similar experience and can advise me what to do? Or is it really something companies don't do?

Maternity leave and maternity pay are two separate (if linked) issues.

Your employer is obligated to confirm maternity leave within 28 days of you informing them.

"After informing your employer that you want to take Statutory Maternity Leave, they should write to you within 28 days. They should confirm your Statutory Maternity Leave and give you the date your Statutory Maternity Leave will end"

Your maternity pay entitlement should be set out in the company policy where you should find all the info you need.

I'm not sure why you would need confirmation of pay dates for smp - these should be on your usual pay day.

What is it you need to know? You already know it will be SMP, which is 90% for 6 weeks then basic rate of about £130 a week for 33 weeks. As hairy said, payment is likely to be on normal pay date.

Most employers would confirm in writing that information. Are they refusing to say you'll get SMP at all or something?

I do provide my staff with a letter confirming pay amounts etc. I do this on the day they go on maternity leave ie. when I actually know for certain the day their maternity leave starts and will finish. If they deliver early and go on maternity leave early I send it their home dated their delivery date with their congratulations card.

Many companies do provide thorough detail but I don't think they are obliged to.

I was informed of my leave and pay entitlements, the need to take this years annual leave before starting ml, my right to accrue holidays etc. Our HR person is vey verbose though and likes to go into fine detail.
