Help Lost P60

I'm doing my self assessment tax books (piles of receipts) for filing by Jan 31st.

I was working a day job for my former employer until June this year. I realise they will have sent me a P60 but I cannot find it anywhere!!!! I remember it's illegal to reprint them, i think that's right, but what can I do? I was on Stat Mat for about half of the time and then about 4 months regular earnings before I left. Do I need a P60 in order to fill in my tax return at all? And if I've lost it, and I do need it, can I ask them for something as a substitute, statement of earnings perhaps?

Feeling slightly panicked.

Have you got your march payslip? Assuming you were paid monthly and to the end of the month, that should show the year to date totals which should be the same numbers. Alternatively, do you know the payroll person at your old employers at all? They should be able to tell you the numbers that went on the p14 for you ( their summary of all employees P60 numbers) - ok you won't have the actual certificate, but unless hmrc enquire into your tax return and ask for that document, you don't actually need it.

Sorry - just to make clear - yes you do need the numbers of earnings (which will include your mat pay) for the year, and tax paid at source (ie PAYE). They will go on the employment pages in the TR. The other thing you'll need to know is your employer's PAYE ref no (will be on your payslip, or they would be able to tell you).

all payslips were online, I'll see if I can ask someone in HR to email me my March one.

Thanks so much Grubs.

Your employer will have filed an end of year return online (P35). They can actually access duplicate P60's online and should be able to print one off for you

If payslips were online they might have sent the P60 by email (this was possible for the first time this year).

If you are going to talk to payroll, you may as well ask them for a duplicate P60 rather than the March payslip as the right numbers can be difficult to work out from a payslip particularly where there are pension contributions. If you have lost the P45 they sent when you left you may as well ask for that as well as you will need it for the 2011/12 return!

Thank you all. Yes have emailed and asked for online copy of P60. Have got P45 under lock and key for next year :-)
