publishing some stories

Hello, over the last 10 years I have been writing Christmas stories for my grandchildren and they have really enjoyed them. This year a few of my friends read them and said that they thought I should try to have them published. I would love to do that but know that this is a difficult field. Publishers are reluctant, in these difficult times, to take on 'unknowns' and self publishing is so costly. I am on a state pension and can't afford some of the costs I have been quoted. Can anybody help me with some ideas on ways that I could look at publishing these stories? I would be so grateful for some advice. Happy New Year to one and all, Christine

self publishing is costly but self printing is not
DH wrote a book that we give away as a promo and sell on his website
its 100 pages paperback size and 100 copies cost us a couple of hundred pounds to have printed
then you can give it as gifts and sell it and try to get a publisher interested in a concrete object

You can publish books on amazon for ppl to download as ebooks. From what I read, it has been a booming business for a few people.

You can sell them as e-books on on amazon with no outlay.
