Working from home

Help! I live in a rural area and transport is a problem so really need to figure out how I can earn from home. So many things online are a scam, are any worthwhile? I'm currently an avon rep but there's not enough people round here to earn anything! Any ideas girls?

Are you qualified in a line of work? Most of the 'home based' jobs I see translate into 'it doesn't matter where you are based as you will be on the road all the time', although I once saw a role that was properly home based.

Not qualified in a particular 'career'. I was a retail manager before we moved to the back of beyond. I would quite like to set up my own business online but have no cash for set up costs. Plus do we really need another fashion/jewellery website?!

I think you will need to set up your own business and take some risk. If it was so easy to find online work from home, we'd all being doing it.

You might be able to make modest amounts from entering competitions but it's the luck of the draw and you will spend lots of time at your PC. Others have made money from hedge betting - see Moneysavingexpert.com - but it is complicated.

You make a valid point Suebfg, I have just been feeling really frustrated lately. Thank you for you reply. Smile

A woman I know works as a PA. She has never, in 3 years, met her Boss nor needed to leave her house to do her job Grin She was lucky in that the guy needed a new PA and mentioned it to a friend who knew my friend so they decided to give it a go - nothing to lose.

I'd be interested in any other replies though as I'd like to do more from home. I'd happily set up my own business again, but lack inspiration this time around.

Chipping and Dessie, I've PM'd you both as I have some experience with this.

I started with my particular work from home business in April 09. I sell ecofriendly products online as well as to local people and it works well for me. I can choose my own hours and how much effort i put in. With any work from home opportunity (eg avon, virgin vie etc) you only get rewards with your own efforts and you have to remember it's a business not a hobby. I also do stall events (school fairs etc) and this is a great way to meet people and get involved in the local community. Whatever you choose, make sure you're fully aware of any start up costs, how you'll be paid and exactly what is entailed before you make any commitment
