I've advised him to email boss & say he's not been paid for x dates. He's on holiday last week/this week/next week and they don't seem to handle that well either ( used to casual staff/ no holiday pay)

They are a small business so no HR just a couple of casual/ part timers and the boss.

The pay tends to be late due to disorganisation rather than the money isn't there but they also aren't doing wonderfully at the moment so we don't want to hang on.

My honest opinion is that he should look for another job as a matter of urgency! Not sure what else he can do - small claims court?

He has another one. Currently doing 3 casual/pt ones.

Just wondered what to do if they don't pay at all!

If he's been owed since October presumably he's spoken to his boss about it several times. What reasons has he been given and what actions have been promised to sort it out?

HarrietJones · 28/12/2011 19:56

He's been paid some weeks and not others. So odd ones then nothing in December yet.

Spoken to them before. Everyone has the same problem. They ganged up and asked then it was reliable for a few weeks then slipped again.

What reason has been given?

Ultimately he and his colleagues can bring a tribunal claim for non-payment of wages but they'd need to do a grievance first really, to get their concerns and the response in writing.

Doesn't sound good though, likely to be financial problems so assuming the job won't be around longterm is sensible and getting details of outstanding amounts on the record in a formal grievance also important.

Thanks flowery. Reasons have been things like boss was Ill & time sheets didn't go to [external] book keeper who admins payroll, it's gone in should be there soon etc.pay doesn't come on set days either so more difficult to follow. boss v disorganised.
