Does this sound unfair?

Hi everyone

I return back to work FT soon. I have found at that they plan to keep the peerosn brought in to cover my mat leave on. However I have found out from a very relaible source that he is being given a 'temporary' role for 2 months until they can advertise an 'internal only' role that he is going to get.

This role is a promotion from the role he was covering (mine) and is doing the work I had been doing prior to going on mat leave (it was a project I was working on).

I feel quite put out at this and wondered whether anyone has a background in employment law/this type of thing and could let me know whether this sounds a bit unfair....

Thank you :)

Will you be going back to the same job & terms that you had before you went off on mat leave? How long did you take on mat leave?

I don't think it's unfair tbh.

Hi Ellypoo

thanks for getting back so quickly. I just wanted to check on it, you've made me feel more relaxed :) I'm going back to a changed role but same job and terms. Took 6 months off in total.

Any reason you can't apply for the new post too?

Hi OldLadyKnowsSantaClaus
My friend suggested that too- but think it would just really bring me down to be turned down after working there for years for someone who did a few months (despite my being more qualified, experienced etc).
There's a lot of 'done deals' when it comes to jobs where I work so just don't think I can muster up the courage.

You've gone back and have got what you were going to get regardless of tge other person. A job is coming up and they think he would be perfect, it will be an internal paging that you are able to apply for. What's tge problem? I've seen lots of people be given a nudge to apply for jobs and then not get throughout at interview.

Were you expecting to return to the project that you think will be part of his promoted role?
If you were doing it already why would it be a promoted role for him to do this project?
