Question about references.

I posted this on the Going back to work board but thought I'd post here as well.

I've been offered a job and they require two references. I was made redundant from my last position in April 2010 and havn't worked since as I've been on 'maternity leave'. I was only there for 8 months and prior to that I was a SAHM for 4 years. I did work for a company for 5 years until September 2005 but I am worried about putting them down as a reference as it was so long ago.....will they even have a record of me? (I do have a hard copy reference from this company which they gave me when I left).

Would I be better to put my most recent employer down and a personal referee instead of a referee from the position I left over 6 years ago?

Now to personal referees. I have a choice between:

  1. A partner in a large law firm who I've know for over 20 years
  2. A family friend who is a retired headmaster who I have known all my life.
  3. My ex's uncle, a magistrate who I still keep in touch with and who I've known for nearly 20 years.
  4. My DH's uncle, a minister who I've known for about 7 years.

Any advice would be great.
