Just about to start a new job (post redundancy) and have found out I'm preggers!

Any advice out there? I haven't signed the contract yet for the new job - was made redundant two weeks ago - at the time didn't realise I was pregnant. I've been for a few interviews for this new role and it looks like they'll go ahead but no official paperwork yet.

I shouldn't mention it should I - way too early, but they're going to hate me aren't they when they find out?

What do you think?

TIA

Firstly, congrats on both the baby and the job...

It is difficult. I think in someways it might depend on how you think they'll react. But without the paperwork signed, they could (illegally of course) withdraw their offer.

I would be inclined not to say anything, as anything can (but I am sure won't) happen in the early stages. I then would tell them straight after the scan, you could always position it that you was concerned about telling them until you knew everything was ok etc. They don't need to know when you realised....

No you shouldn't mention it. No they won't hate you although there might be a bit of sighing and eye-rolling behind the scenes, I won't lie to you.

But it's one of those things, you'll have plenty of time before you take maternity leave to 'wow' them and get your feet under the table, make a fantastic impression etc

Thanks!

Its tricky isn't it? I'm leaning towards the not saying anything until first scan too - They'll realise 'it' happened around the time I signed up but I can always say I was under a lot of pressure and just hadn't realised if the conversation comes up.

I'm so cross with my old company - had been there ages and would have got a good package - oh well.

Hi, I'm in a slightly similar situation and was looking for some advice. I was meant to hand my notice in today as I have been offered a new job, however I took a pg test....or 3 today.....and I tested positive! I'm delighted but now think that as my current employers have a good mat package that I should stay but am just feeling confused. Any advice / thoughts on the matter would be greatfully received.

Good luck with it all Miss Jemima

Hi Excitingtimes - Congrats!

Hard to say what to do - you'll definitely get a better deal if you stay with your old employer, but can you handle being there for another 8 months or so? If yes, then I would probably stay - but I'm all about security at the moment! Is it a similar job or completely different?

x

That's the big problem, I'm not sure I really want to stay but know it's the sensible thing to do. I'll have to have that conversation with the recruitment agent tomorrow.

I don't think you should tell your new job just yet. Wait until you're more settled and had the first scan.

I'm so excited but the days can't go quickly enough...I want to hit the 12 weeks! Bet you can't to! x
