In thinking I can still go on stress leave

I am contemplating stress leave from work. The very thought of going there makes me feel like throwing up, I get palpitations when I look at work emails. Long story short, its a bullying thing.

Anyway, after more emails this weekend, I dont think I can face it. But we have one week work and then the xmas break and I have (quite some time ago) booked a few days leave so we can go abroad for Xmas.

DH reckons I can take stress leave due to the holiday...because they will question me being on stress leave if I can go away for a week at Xmas.
Is that so?

Is anything being done about the workplace bullying? Are you in a union? Far too little information in your post to give an opinion about the employment law position.

I havent put a complaint in yet. This is my last straw. I dont think I can face going there.

I was once told by my doctor to take three weeks off and to spend at least a week of it abroad on holiday. My boss didn't like it but tough.

At my current work European travel is allowed if it's part of recovery.

Are the emails part of the bullying?

You need to address this with your employer.

You can self-cert for 7 days. Relax over Christmas, have your holiday then talk to your employer in the New Year about the bullying.

If you were to go to your GP and he signed you off for 4 weeks, for example, the sickness should over-rule the holiday and you will get your annual leave back. At least that would happen with my employer.

Don't worry about the fact that you've got a holiday booked. It sounds like genuine sickness and a holiday would be beneficial to your recovery in these circumstances.

Is the bullying coming from one person, or more?

How have you attempted to deal with it so far?

How difficult/easy would it be to find another suitable job?

Asking because the problems you describe (and your frame of mind as a result) will still be with you after the holidays - whether you take stress leave or not. So, best to come up with a long term plan.

Self certain covers the first consecutive seven days - including days you would not be in work normally like weekends and holidsys... You need a doctors note for the eighth consecutive day.

So if the seven days up so your hols are sick days that's fine, but if you are then claiming to be sick in holiday and then after your hols you do need a fit note from your Gp which starts on the eighth day of absence
