Advice regarding Classroom Assistant or other working for a school

A little while off yet but when dd2 starts school I would like to look for a job. It needs to fit in with school hours as DH works long hours. My background has been secretarial but am considering classroom assistants. In your experience do you need teaching experience?, do all classes have a classroom asssistant?, do you need any training?

Would also consider school secretary but would imagine that this would be a harder job to find.

Thanks

round here - its very much who you know scenario with school. if you want dd's school then try volunteering, pta stuff etc, so when the time comes people know who you are.

most ca's, i believe, only work on yearly (school yr)contracts, so can't guarentee long term work.

how about a local community nursery - they are always looking for volunteers or sure start - will give you something for cv?

could try nhs - we are ( the nhs trust i work for)currently considering term-time / flexible working for all staff - a support worker is on 12k - 17k in learning disability. would be happy to share description of work with you if interested and maybe recommend organisations in your area - cat me if you want to.

though saying that we'd also be interested in your secretarial skills too - there's alot in the offices that work 9.30 till 3.30
