wanting to be self employed-

Hi, i am a mum of 2 and I have been waiting for my youngest who just turned 3 to get the grants into nursery before declaring myself self-employed- Although I have not been doing it very long and because i have not been able to earn enough yet, i'm not sure how long to wait unless i shoot myself in the foot with either not letting benefits know -and then not having enough money to live-and by declaring too early-or being on the wrong side of the tax man legally- its scary anyway going self employed but i am starting to love it and cannot wait for it to be all above board asap. Any advice would be great! xx

You can get a failure to notify penalty from HMRC if you do not let them know you are SE.

Would your benefits not be dependent on amount earned, so that they would decrease as your business took off?

You should make all necessary parties aware what you are doing otherwise you are making fraudulent claims, which again carry penalties.
