Am I losing perspective?

Hello.

I posted a while ago about my situation at work here, and am back for more wise words.

I had my performance review on Thursday, and although it was mostly glowing (I am the best person at this level they've ever had, rah rah rah), it was also used as an opportunity to suggest I need to be more flexible about working on Wednesdays.

I work 4 days a week - Wed is non-work day - and negotiated that when I started.

It has riled me enormously. I don't know how I can be flexible about working Wednesdays - DD is at nursery (she has her four days), and DH also works full time. I think it's partly because I am so over being sidelined, and passed over while pregnant, and the comments about flexibility, but - am I being ridiculous? Is a performance review the place to raise this? They also asked clients for feedback that I have barely worked with (although feedback was great), and didn't ask who internally I would like to give 360 feedback. The whole thing seems ridiculous, but it may be my state of mind. What are your thoughts, please?

To be honest I would stand my ground and refuse to work Wednesdays. Plus I would ask for a change of contract stating your contractual hours as they are now excluding Wednesdays. It just riles me that employers are so backwards in this regard.

The only other thing I thought is perhaps changing your day off to a Monday? I did think that maybe others find it hard to remember that you are not in mid week as it is a bit unusual.

A lot of working mums that I know take Fridays off. I would never have gone for this personally as our office was asleep/left early on Fridays, so having this day off doesn't reduce your workload that much.

Good luck!

Thanks Sooty - my hours at this place have never included Wednesdays - it was in my offer letter, and my contract that I don't work Wednesdays. That's why it has so annoyed me, I think. It's not like a landed them with this - they employed me on this basis!

Take it as a compliment.
You are doing a great job and they wish you worked more hours.
