Anyone used a mentor?

Will be starting an HR consultancy shortly and wondering if it would prove beneficial to find a mentor.

Has anyone used a mentor? Was it useful? I'm thinking it would be useful to speak to someone in the same field but in a different geographical location. Not sure how I would go about finding one...

I think it helps if you are clear what you need your mentor for. I use 2 mentors - one for the technical area that I work in (someone who I can speak to about professional issues) and another one for business development (someone I speak to about marketing, goal setting, income forecasts etc).

I have used mentors and they came free through the business start up scheme through the job centre.

You will have no problem finding one. Every networking event I've been to recently has been 60% mentors

Yes I have one through the princes trust.

I find her extremely helpful to sound off my ideas and help me organise my thoughts.

I do this with Dh too but i find it puts a but if pressure in our relaiknship as it's another job thing to discuss like have the bills been paid, bin emptied

I like the mentor because she gives me a fresh approach on thinking.
