Are there official guidelines for time off for hospital apts during working hours?

I have a hospital appointment coming up, it's during my working day but I can't change the time / date.

Can my employer make me take annual leave to cover the hour out of the office or should I be able to ask for an unpaid hour?

Making the time up would be a pain as I have to take and collect the kids from school, I could fit in an extra 10 mins a day for 6 days but it's messy doing it that way. I'd rather lose an hours pay if I have to.

My previous employer would allow an hour for staff to go to hospital appointments without having to make up the time, but I'm pretty sure that's not common practice!

Have a look here, you are entitled to paid time off

It's up to your individual employer I think - we give staff the opportunity to take leave, make the time up, or if necessary, take unpaid leave. I guess if you went to your line manager/boss and asked if you could take 1 hours unpaid because it would be difficult to make the time up due to your constraints in collecting kids from school, they are likely to be amenable to your request. They may have a policy within their staff handbook?

It's down to company policy, there is no legal entitlement to time off for hospital unless it's for ante natal care.

place I have worked before have allowed time of for hosptial appointments -but sure they didn't have to - I would just ask what is going to work - would have thought it would take more than an hour though unless you just have to leave an hour early

Hi, as an employer our company policy is that you can attend any hospital appointment however it has to either be taken as annual leave, unpaid or the time made up.

This applies to our hourly paid or shift workers within our production areas.
We also have a salaried team who work beyond standard contracted hours these members are able to attend appointments within reason as they will still perform their role.

If you have a disability covered by the dda you're also entitled to paid time off.
