Application for flexible working: should I bring colleague in to meeting?

What benefits are there to having a colleague with you for the meeting to discuss an application for flexible working? I've been told by my boss that it's my right to have a colleague there but I'm really sure why this would be needed.

Does anyone have any advice/experience either way?

I should probably say that I am the first person in my company's 25 year history to get pregnant whilst working there so there is no precedent for how this meeting might go

You've got the right to bring a colleague. Really the best things they can do are take notes, give you a bit of moral support, etc. Since it's you who will understand best your preferences, the impact of your request, etc they can't really do that any better than you can.

So I'd take someone if you feel the support would be useful, but not because you feel you should IYSWIM.

Thanks for that - I've decided not to take anyone in with me and to just make sure everything is noted by email afterwards so there's a written record of what was said/agreed.
